The refineries of «Bashneft" and petrochemical plants of "United Petrochemical Company" - JSC "Ufaorgsintez" and LLC "Bisphenol" are located in Ufa. Refining complex includes three branches of "Bashneft": "Ufaneftekhim", "UNPZ", "Novoil". Their total capacity of primary oil processing is 24.1 million tonnes. In terms of crude oil processing volume "Bashneft" is the fifth largest company in Russia.

Ufa refineries are among the most technically advanced domestic enterprises in the industry – according to Nelson index with the figure 8.55 "Bashneft" is the leader in Russia, and is comparable to average European refineries. The uniqueness of Ufa refinery complex ensures close cooperation between the plants, which allows to select the optimal scheme of processing with maximum economic benefit.

As part of "Bashneft" refineries a number of processing units operates, deepening the processes of refinement and allowing to produce high quality fuel of Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards: hydrocracking, catalytic cracking, thermal cracking, delayed coking units, alkylation, isomerization, hydrotreating, etc.

In 2012, the refinery complex «Bashneft" processed 20.8 million tons of crude oil, providing an average depth of processing 84.9%, which is the highest figure in the industry. The output of light oil products reached 59.7%. The main share of manufactured products in 2012 accounted for diesel fuel (38%) and gasoline (25%). The share of gasoline of Euro-4 and Euro-5 in 2012 increased to 75.1% from issuance of commercial gasoline.

Despite the leading position in the refining segment, «Bashneft" continues to invest in the modernization of its refining capacity. The volume of capital investment in oil in 2012 amounted to 12.5 billion roubles. In 2013 "Novoil" put into commercial operation a plant for sulfuric acid alkylation and regeneration of spent sulfuric acid (SKA-ROSC). Investments in the project exceeded 8 billion roubles. Implementation of the project SKA-ROSC along with the construction of two other plants - hydrogen and hydrotreating catalytic cracking gasoline - will allow the refinery complex "Bashneft" to complete prematurely in 2014 the transition to the production of fuels of ecological standard Euro 5.

Petrochemical production in Ufa is represented by JSC "Ufaorgsintez" and LLC "Bisphenol" which belong to "United Petrochemical Company"; a complex of aromatics of "Bashneft - Ufaneftekhim" branch as well as a number of other enterprises.

Operations on oil refining and petrochemistry are characterized by high level of industrial cooperation, which provides flexibility in terms of supplied raw materials and product mix. In June 2013 "Bashneft" completed the consolidation of the petrochemical assets on the basis of "United Petrochemical Company" in which "Bashneft" owns 98% of the nominal capital. "Bashneft" is the fourth largest producer of petrochemical products in Russia.

Branch "Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim" has a complex for the production of aromatic hydrocarbons, which is one of the largest in Russia. Out of straight-run gasoline fraction obtained from three refineries of Ufa group benzene, paraxylene, ortho-xylene and toluene are produced here.

JSC "Ufaorgsintez" uses hydrocarbon gases and light gasoline (waste gas), produced by three Ufa refineries and gas processing companies; benzol, produced by the branch "Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim" as raw materials. JSC "Ufaorgsintez" produces over 30 petrochemical products, including balen (polypropylene and propylene copolymers), high-density polyethylene, acetone, phenol, alpha-methylstyrene, isopropyl and synthetic rubber.

Phenol and acetone, produced at JSC "Ufaorgsintez" are used by LLC "Bisphenol" as components for diphenylolpropane (bisphenol-A) - the raw material for the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonates.
